1 in 9 women experience breast cancer. We all know someone who’s had it. Some of us know someone who’s died because of it- usually because their symptoms weren’t discovered early enough. Women in East London are more likely to discover they have breast cancer when it’s in its later stages as the take up of screening is low. Are women unaware of this free service and how to access it?
In the Keeping Abreast project we aim to:
encourage ‘marginalised’ women (particularly from Asian and white working class backgrounds) to take up the invitation for screening;
engage the audience in discussion of the issues;
dispel the myths around screening;
make the subject matter commonplace;
explain the message simply and visually;
enlighten, entertain, inform
